Which Santorini sunset cruise, and what time sunset is
Sunset at Fira runs from about 19:52 in mid-April to 20:38 in mid-June, and back to 18:43 in mid-October. Both of our sunset cruises hold the open water off Akrotiri for it, past the 1892 lighthouse.

There are two Santorini sunset cruises on our catamaran. The semi-private is €100 per person, 15:00 to sunset, up to 15 guests. The private is €1,200 for up to eight, 14:30 to 19:30, up to 17. Sunset itself runs from about 20:38 in mid-June to 18:43 in mid-October.

The 15:00 sunset cruise runs to the sunset itself, whenever that falls. Departure times shift through the season; your confirmation carries the one that applies.
Which of the two
Below six guests the shared boat wins on money and loses nothing else. Above six the gap narrows, but it never closes.
At six guests the private boat is still €1,200, which is €200 each against €100 for a seat on the shared one. At eight it is €150 each. At seventeen it is €124. It never reaches €100.
So a private sunset is not a saving, and we would rather say that plainly than dress it up. What you are buying is your own departure time, your own music, a route the captain talks through with you first, and nobody else in the frame. For a proposal, a fortieth birthday, or ten people who want to sit together, that is worth €1,200. For two people who want the light and a plate off the grill, it is not.
One thing to raise when you book. The private sunset is written as 14:30 to 19:30. In mid-June the sun does not reach the horizon until about 20:38. Departure times move through the season because the sun does, so if sunset itself is the point of the evening, say so and we will set the hours around your date rather than around a timetable.

The 15th of each month in 2026, at Fira, at sea level. These are the seven months of the sailing season; the other five are on the full table.

The two agreed within a minute on both dates tested. Treat every row as approximate, give or take two minutes, and check your own date rather than your month — a fortnight in September moves sunset by about twenty minutes. What sunset from the water is actually like
There are two moments, and people conflate them. The sun going down is the first. The half hour afterwards, when the cliffs behind you hold and then deepen their colour, is the second — and it is the one most guests remember, which is why the boat does not turn for home the instant the sun disappears.
From the rim you look along the cliff. From the water you look up it, and the red volcanic layers read as separate bands from the waterline to the top. That is the whole difference in one line.
Why the boat sits where it sits. The cruise finishes off Akrotiri, at the island's south-western corner past the 1892 lighthouse, because that is the one patch of this water where the western horizon is open sea. Anywhere inside the caldera the sun drops behind the Thirassia and Aspronisi rim minutes before its published time; off the lighthouse it goes all the way down to the waterline, and the caldera cliffs stand behind you catching the last of it.
And why it does not anchor. The water off the corner is deep, like everything around this island. The boat holds position instead, engines quiet, and the captain turns it so that the light and the horizon sit in the same view for everyone on deck.
Against Oia at dusk, the comparison is simple. The Kastro terrace fills long before the sun gets near the horizon, and getting out afterwards is slower than getting in. From the terrace the sun drops into haze over open water; from the deck it does the same, with nobody's elbow in the frame and dinner already eaten.
Where the sun is watched from
A sunset cruise sails out into the windiest part of a Santorini day. The meltemi is a dry northerly that runs the Aegean summer. Sailingissues.com describes the daily pattern: it comes up in the early afternoon at 4 to 5 Beaufort, 11 to 21 knots, and dies at sunset. Windfinder's long-run statistics for Santorini airport, from observations since 2000, give a mean of 12 knots from the north-west with mean gusts of 29 knots.
In practice you go out through the chop and come home in the calm. Most people are fine with that order. If you are the one who goes quiet on a ferry, it is the wrong way round for you — take a morning cruise instead, and read seasickness and sea conditions before you book anything.

Do you offer sunset cruises?
Two of them. The semi-private sunset leaves at 15:00 and runs five hours to sunset at €100 per person, up to 15 guests. The private sunset charter is 14:30 to 19:30, €1,200 for up to eight guests and €100 for each guest after that.
What is the location of the boat during sunset time?
Off Akrotiri, at the island's southern corner past the 1892 lighthouse. The western horizon there is open sea rather than the caldera rim, so the sun goes down on water with the cliffs colouring behind you. The exact spot depends on the wind and on what else is out that evening.
When does the sun actually disappear from a boat?
At its published time, give or take haze, because the boat holds the water off Akrotiri where the western horizon is open sea. Inside the caldera it would go behind the Thirassia rim minutes early — which is exactly why the cruise finishes at the corner instead. The cliffs then hold colour for roughly another half hour.

Will I get seasick?
Most people do not. Two hulls make a catamaran far steadier than a single-hull yacht, and the caldera is sheltered by its own cliffs. The afternoon is the windier half of a Santorini day, though. If you are prone to it, take something before you board and take the morning cruise instead.
