Santorini water taxi: a private boat, not a ferry
One boat, your group, no timetable. Since the stepped path below Fira closed on 28 July 2026 the cable car is the only way up that cliff, and it moves 600 people an hour in each direction.
A Santorini water taxi is a private boat, hired whole, that moves your group from one point on the coast to another. There is no timetable and no ticket window. Price follows the route, the distance, the hour and the season, so every job is quoted. Send us both ends and your date.
Two service lines run out of the same office here: the catamaran cruises, and this. A water taxi is the plain one. It is transport, and it is judged on whether you arrive when you said you would.
What a water taxi in Santorini actually is
It is a boat you hire whole, not a seat you buy on a schedule.
Santorini has no public water-bus network on the caldera. What the phrase describes here is a small private boat, usually a RIB or a fast open launch, carrying a handful of people from one point on the coast to another. Ours takes up to eight, with two crew.
You are paying for the boat and the crew's time, not for a seat. Eight people pay what two people pay. The arithmetic therefore swings hard with the size of your group, and we cannot tell you where it swings until we have quoted your route.
The second thing to understand is that nothing waits at a pier for you. A water taxi is arranged in advance, for a stated time, or it does not happen. People who turn up at the quay hoping to find one are usually the people who end up in the cable car queue.
And the third: a boat does not take you up. It takes you somewhere a car can reach. That is the actual service, and on the right day it is worth a great deal.

What to send us so we can price it
A water-taxi quote is five facts. Send them in one message and you get one answer back, usually the same day.

Read down that column and the market spread runs from about €20 to €220, with two different units of measure mixed into it: per person for a shared seat, per boat for a private one. Most of the largest names publish nothing. That is not an accident and it is not a conspiracy — it is a market where the answer genuinely depends on the route, so nobody wants to be held to a headline number. We would rather quote you honestly than publish one and add conditions later.
When the boat wins, and when it plainly does not
This is the section most operators leave out. A water taxi is the right answer some of the time, and an expensive way to do something simple the rest of the time.

How a quote works
- You send the five factsBoth ends, the date, the time, the number of people, the luggage. One message on WhatsApp is enough.
- We look at the day, not just the routeWind forecast, ships in port, ferry departures, what is already booked. A route that is easy on Tuesday is sometimes not on Wednesday.

- The meeting point comes with the bookingConfirmed in writing, with a photograph, the day before. Quays here are short and crowded, and the layout changes with the berthing.
We do not publish a crossing time for our own boat, and we do not publish a route price. Both would be guesses dressed as facts, and you would be the one holding the guess at 08:40 with a ferry to catch.

How much is a water taxi in Santorini?
We quote each job rather than publishing a rate, because the price follows the route, the hour and the season. For scale, other operators' published figures ran from about €20 per person on a shared boat to €220 per boat one way when we checked on 25 August 2026.
Are water taxis running in Santorini?
Boats work the caldera through the season, but nothing runs to a timetable and nothing waits at the pier. Availability on any given date depends on the wind, on how many ships are in, and on what is already booked. Never plan around a walk-up boat. Send us the date first.
Are there any other ways up besides the cable car (water taxi or alternate ports)?

Private vs shared water taxi — which should I book?
Shared costs less per head and leaves when the boat fills or when the rotation says so. Private costs more and leaves when you do, which is the whole point against a ferry departure or an all-aboard time. Groups of four or more, and anyone on a deadline, usually want private.
Can I take my luggage on a water taxi?
Sometimes, and it is a crew decision rather than a passenger one. Cases have to be handed across a moving gunwale, and anything on an open deck gets wet in chop. Tell us the number of bags and their size before you book, not on the quay.
How many people fit on a water taxi?
Eight on ours, with two crew aboard. That is the maximum we sell, not a target, and it is the same boat whether two of you travel or eight. If your party is larger than eight, tell us the number and we will say plainly what is possible.
How far ahead should I book a transfer?
Twenty-four hours is our minimum, but treat that as a floor rather than a plan. Cruise-day demand concentrates into two or three hours, ferry departures cluster the same way, and small boats are finite. Ask on WhatsApp as soon as your date is fixed and you will get a straight answer.
